What the service does

Suricate reads the manifests, lockfile and Node configuration of a repository you connect, compares them against a hand-curated set of announced breaking changes, deprecations and shutdowns, and emails you when one of them concerns you. Checks run nightly.

What it does not do, and cannot promise

Coverage is not exhaustive and is not claimed to be. The set of things we watch is curated by hand, entry by entry, and it is finite. A change we have not entered is a change you will not hear about from us. Suricate is a reminder service, not insurance against every third party you depend on.

We publish how current the knowledge base is, publicly and without an account, precisely so that you never have to take our word for whether we are still looking. A quiet month and a stopped service look identical from the outside; that page is the difference.

Dates come from the vendors themselves and can move. When a vendor pushes a shutdown back or brings it forward, we follow their most recent announcement.

Your account

You sign in with GitHub. You choose which repositories the app may see, and you can change or remove that at any time from GitHub or from your account page. One repository is watched on the free plan.

You are responsible for the email address on the account being one you actually read. The product is an email; an address that bounces is a service that cannot work.

Acting on an alert

Alerts are information, not advice, and not a substitute for reading the vendor’s own announcement — which every alert links to, for exactly that reason. Deciding whether and when to upgrade anything is yours.

Timing

Checks run once a night, and an announcement typically reaches you within a day or two of the vendor publishing it — the entry has to be read and written by a person first. That is a target, not a commitment: no delay is guaranteed. Suricate is not an incident tool, and a deprecation has a date weeks or months out, which is what makes a nightly cadence enough.

Liability

The service is provided as it is. We are not liable for a change we did not catch, a date a vendor moved, an email that a spam filter ate, or any loss arising from acting or not acting on an alert.

Where liability can be limited, it is limited to what you have paid us over the twelve months before the claim — which, on the free plan, is nothing. Nothing here limits liability that the law does not allow us to limit, including death, personal injury, and our own gross negligence or wilful misconduct.

Ending it

Delete your account whenever you like, from the account page, without asking us. We may close an account that abuses the service — automated scraping, attempts to reach other people’s data — and we will say why.

Changes

If these terms change materially, the date above moves and we email you before the change takes effect.
