What breaks

This is the final notice that Node 20 is gone from GitHub Actions runners, and the escape hatch for staying on it is also gone.

  • JavaScript actions that specify or depend on Node 20 will not run
  • The ACTIONS_ALLOW_USE_UNSECURE_NODE_VERSION opt-out no longer works to force Node 20

What to do

Move any JavaScript actions to run on Node 24.

  • Update action definitions to target Node 24
  • Remove any reliance on ACTIONS_ALLOW_USE_UNSECURE_NODE_VERSION

GitHub Actions runners have now removed Node 20. JavaScript actions now run on Node 24, and the temporary opt-out for using an unsecure Node version is no longer available.
