Effective
passed 29 Sept 2026

What breaks

Starting September 29, 2026, version limits are enforced on self-hosted runners for GitHub Enterprise Cloud.

  • Runners below version 2.329.0 will be unable to register or reregister.
  • Runners below the (higher) minimum runtime version will stop running workflow jobs, even if already registered.
  • GitHub Enterprise Cloud with Data Residency is unaffected by this date shift since enforcement already began there on July 31, 2026.

What to do

Upgrade any self-hosted runners that are below the required versions before the enforcement date.

  • Check current runner versions against the registration and runtime minimums.
  • Upgrade runners below version 2.329.0 or below the runtime minimum.
  • Use the REST API for runner version deprecations to check dates and automate alerts for fleets nearing their deadline.
  • Consult the self-hosted runner documentation for upgrade guidance.

What the vendor said

GitHub has moved the enforcement date for minimum version requirements on self-hosted GitHub Actions runners for GitHub Enterprise Cloud. Enforcement now begins September 29, 2026, instead of the previously announced date. The version requirements themselves have not changed.
