What breaks

Nothing stops on that day. Security and critical fixes stop being backported to 15.x, so the next vulnerability found in Next.js is fixed in 16 only.

What to do

Upgrade to Next.js 16, the Active LTS line. Run the official codemod, then fix what it leaves: async params and searchParams, new next/image defaults, and Node.js 20.9 or later.

What the vendor said

The Next.js support policy keeps each major in Maintenance LTS for two years after its initial release, and lists 15.x as released on 21 October 2024. Two years on is 21 October 2026: the page states the rule and the release date, not the end date itself. After it, 15.x joins the unsupported versions.
