What breaks

Nothing until you bump the major. On the day you do, expect build-time failures rather than runtime ones — the codemod handles most of them.

What to do

Follow the Next.js 16 upgrade guide; the codemod covers most call sites.

What the vendor said

Next.js 16 was announced on 21 October 2025 and published to npm the next day. Projects below 16 stay on Next 15 or earlier and face breaking changes on upgrade, including async params, new next/image defaults and a Node.js 20.9 minimum.

Suricate tells you this before it lands, by email, only when your own repository is affected.
