What breaks
On the Workers Free plan, exceeding the daily D1 limits causes queries to fail until reset.
- Workers Binding API calls to D1 return an error once the row read or row write limit is exceeded
- REST API calls to D1 return an error once the row read or row write limit is exceeded
- Queries stay blocked until the limit resets at midnight UTC
What to do
Review D1 usage before the enforcement date to avoid hitting the limits.
- Inspect database query activity to identify queries that may exceed the daily limits
- Add indexes to tables and review queries that perform full table scans to reduce row reads
- Upgrade to a Workers Paid plan if usage still requires higher limits after optimization
- Watch for email alerts that indicate a daily limit has been reached

What the vendor said
Starting September 1, 2026, Cloudflare will enforce daily row read and row write limits on D1 for accounts on the Workers Free plan. Once an account exceeds either limit, D1 queries will fail until the limit resets at midnight UTC.
